Every writer has their own way of stepping into the world they're creating. This is mine.

One question I've been asked a few times is, "How do you actually write?"
The truth is... it isn't as simple as just sitting down and typing.
Before I write, I need to disconnect from the world around me and reconnect with the one I'm creating. I need to picture the landscapes, hear the conversations between my characters and feel the atmosphere of the story. If I can't immerse myself in that world, I find it much harder to write authentically.
Music plays a huge part in that process.
I spend a surprising amount of time searching for the right soundtrack—not just any playlist, but music that matches the emotion of the chapter I'm working on. Sometimes it's cinematic orchestral music, sometimes it's something darker and more mysterious. The right piece of music can completely change how a scene unfolds.
And then comes the most important part...
Comfort. 😂
Blanket? ✔️
Headphones? ✔️
Coffee nearby? Usually! ☕😂
Once everything is in place, I can finally switch off from everyday life and step into the world of The Runes of the North.
People often imagine writing as a burst of inspiration where the words simply pour onto the page. Sometimes that happens... but most of the time it's about creating the right environment, staying focused and allowing yourself to become completely immersed in the story.
Every chapter, every conversation and every scene begins here—wrapped in a blanket, headphones on, and disappearing into another world for a few hours.
Every writer has their own ritual. This one is mine.
How about you? Whether you're a writer, artist, musician or simply someone who loves to read—do you have something that helps you switch off from the world and focus? I'd love to hear what it is. ❤️
